Position: Youth Program Associate - Full Time (1700 service hours)
Description:
The AmeriCorps member at Urban Initiatives will serve as a Youth Program Associate to create and engage youth and their families in health, education, and character development activities throughout the course of the service term. The member serving in this capacity will:
- Assist in the implementation of Urban Initiatives’ health and education soccer program
- Create health and character development handouts
- Organize program field trips and events
- Recruit volunteers
- Create/execute parent outreach work-plan
- Conduct trainings and information sessions with parents
- Identify and build relationships with neighborhood leadership
- Other responsibilities as needed
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school degree or G.E.D.
- Minimum of 18 year of age, US citizen or permanent resident status
- Desire and ability to work with a diverse group of people, particularly those living in low-income distressed neighborhoods
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Self-starter
- Computer skills
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Ability to work a flexible schedule (some night and weekends may be required)
- Spanish speaking (preferred)
- Access to a car (strongly preferred)
- Criminal History Check is required
Stipend:
The program will offer to the member an $18,000 stipend, training and professional development opportunities. Upon the completion of the service term and the required 1700 worked hours; the members will become eligible for a $5,350 education award.
