Walsh Recognized as Gold!

Urban Initiatives is pleased to announce that partner school, Walsh Elementary has received federal recognition as Gold from the National Healthy Schools Campaign. Walsh is one of the first Chicago Public Schools to receive this honor. To be selected as a recipient of this award Walsh has committed to the health and nutrition of their students.

The students at Walsh receive at least 150 minutes of moderate to intense physical activity per week, while typically students at other schools receive 30-60 minutes. Mr. Neal the Physical Education Teacher at Walsh supports CLOCC’s 5-4-3-2-1-Go! messaging during the school day. He passes out daily logs to students in the first through eighth grades to track whether or not they are meeting their daily nutrition and physical activity requirements.

We are proud to be Walsh’s partner in their efforts to support the health of their students. Great work to the team at Walsh! We hope other Chicago Public Schools will join Walsh in “Going for the Gold!”
