This post was guest-written by Carrie Rodman, the daughter of Urban Initiatives Board Member Ben Rodman. Read on to see a great way that Chicagoland young adults are getting an early start on a life of service.
This past February, New Trier’s Student-Athlete Leadership Training class put together a school-wide event called TrevNight. At Trev Night, students could play 3v3 Basketball, 2v2badminton, and 7v7 dodgeball with a $5 entry fee. It was a lot of fun for everyone who helped plan it and for those who attended and played.
Some of our proceeds went to benefit the J. Kyle Braid Leadership foundation, a program that four New Trier kids are sent to each summer to learn leadership skills. Myself and three other current juniors attended last summer, and we helped start TrevNight at our school. The rest of our proceeds were set aside to donate to a charity. After discussing, we chose to donate to Urban Initiatives because of its mission and the high value that the organization places on athletics and nutrition. We know that the proceeds will be used well and hope that you will accept our donation.
Our assistant athletic director, Mrs. Ofcky, will be sending a check to the Urban Initiatives office in the near future. Attached are a few pictures from the event. It was a lot of fun and we are happy that the money is going to such a great cause.
