Coach Spotlight: Kesharn Wright

Urban Initiatives is fortunate to work with incredible coaches that come directly from the communities we serve. One such coach who consistently goes above and beyond and demonstrates incredible commitment to the Work to Play Program and the kids is Coach Kesharn Wright from Reavis Elementary. Coach Wright’s children, 7th grader Chevaughn, 5th grader Gabrielle and 2nd grader Aliana all joined the team when the Work to Play Program began at Reavis four years ago, and since then she has always been a consistently involved parent who supports the program wholeheartedly. Last year, the UI staff was so impressed by her commitment we asked if she would like to be an Assistant Coach on the Reavis team and she said "YES!"

Since then, Coach Wright has brought incredible energy and an unmatched dynamic to the Reavis team that has made the Work to Play Program stronger than ever for our kids. Coach Wright’s favorite part about being a part of the UI Team is "The fact that Urban Initiatives works with the whole child, their behavior, learning good sports practices, and exposing them to new cultures and people." She attests to how Urban Initiatives has impacted the entire school community by promoting a greater understanding of health, involving the parents of students in positive ways, and taking the kids on fun and unique field trips!

Program Associate at Reavis Coach Brendan appreciates the dedication Coach Wright displays during every practice and game day, "I have always been impressed with and enjoyed how Coach Wright joins in the soccer games with the kids and helps them learn the moves and games so that they will be successful soccer players."

Coach Wright’s favorite soccer move is the Messi, and loves playing Knockout with the kids. Coach Wright also appreciates that the Work to Play Program teaches our soccer players the value and power of respect. She believes that emphasizing respect teaches the children how to obey adults, how to get along with peers, and how to be concerned about what goes on in the world.

The entire UI staff would like to THANK Coach Wright for her incredible service to Urban Initiatives and, more importantly, to the student athletes of Reavis Elementary School! Go Coach Wright!
