Students in 4th, 5th and 6th grade across the country and at CPS’s Louis Pasteur Elementary School had a chance to learn about healthy eating and artistically express what a healthy school lunch means to them through the Healthy Lunch for a Healthier Me! art contest sponsored by the school’s meal provider, Preferred Meal Systems.
Students from Pasteur submitted 3 drawings depicting the theme of the importance of healthy foods and one entry was chosen as one of six first place winners across the country to be displayed on their school’s meal delivery truck. Sixth graders, Daniela Morelos, Melanie Olmos, Catherine Sobus and Jocelyn Zermeno learned they were the winners at a special presentation and truck reveal at the school on March 21, 2013. Pro wrestler and five-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion Adam “Scrap Iron” Pearce announced the winning entry and spoke to students about the importance of a healthy lifestyle at an assembly at the school.
In January 2013, Preferred Meal Systems conducted the second annual Healthy Lunch for a Healthier Me! art contest for 4th through 6th graders in 27 states which included a lesson plan for healthy eating. Six first place winners were selected to have their artwork displayed on a Preferred Meal Systems delivery truck and each winner is honored at a special presentation and truck reveal. Winners were selected by special guest judges and voted on by company employees based on originality of design, theme message clarity and artistic merit. Second and third place winners will be featured on school tray liners and the annual calendar during the 2013-14 school year.
