Chicago White Sox Hit a Homerun for Urban Initiatives

Over the course of the first three days of the fall season Urban Initiatives’ new Program Associates took six schools to The White Sox series versus the Detroit Tigers. Urban Initiatives coaches led bubbling busloads of kids to U.S. Cellular Field where they led their schools in cheers for the hometown team.

Jeff had the privilege of riding over with Tarkington and Marquette on one collective bus of excited children and their families. The night was filled with loads of laughs as the group coolly entered the stadium. The White Sox did not match up to the Tigers in a low scoring 1-0 defeat of the Sox. Despite the loss the kids thoroughly enjoyed themselves and the excitement of the night. They all received healthy snacks, and got to enjoy the nice warm weather, meeting new members of their team and an overall great experience.

Patty got to hang out in the heat with Greene and Daley elementary schools. It was a very hot day and the Tigers were just as hot beating our home team 9-1. Regardless, it was loads of excitement and a brand new experience for some. Some of the children that lived near the U.S. Cellular field experienced the stadium for the first time with Urban Initiatives! A big thank you goes to the White Sox for allowing these children to be involved in this part of their community for the first time. Also a big thanks to Coach Patty for bringing a surprise healthy snack of unsalted peanuts so the children could fully experience the games.

Adam, known to UI family as Coach Bear, got the chance to take two south side schools Claremont and Libby Elementary schools to the U.S. Cellular Field to experience a great game. On another hot night the kids stood on their feet and cheered for the home team as they were introduced to the crowd. It was all around good sweaty fun! The two schools all munched on healthy snacks and got to see the White Sox playing a winning game with the Sox beating Detroit 5-1.
