The Cubs on the Move Fitness Trolley Helping UI Keep Kids Active!

With the end of July came the end to our summer camps across the city. Beidler, Gunsaulus, Lloyd, and Kozminski all enjoyed a summer full of soccer, water games, and most importantly baseball! We had the pleasure of partnering, for a second consecutive summer, with the Chicago Cubs and their Cubs on the Move Fitness Trolley.

Once a week each school got to play games, learn about health and fitness, and how to run the bases like a real Chicago Cubs player. Each week the Cubs focused on different discussion topics like healthy eating habits, fitness, and teamwork. One camper at Gunsaulus was floored by the idea that playing tag at home with his cousins counted as fitness!

Lloyd’s last trolley visit was made even more memorable by a visit from an old friend Clark the Cub, and the Cubs newest rising star Arismendy Alcántara! Campers went to bat against the new Cubs star giving them the chance to play baseball with a real MLB player, a memory that will last a lifetime. Campers even taught our new friends their favorite game Cut the Cake and talked about what activities count as fitness. 2nd grader Angel said it was the best day of his summer. As the day came to a close we finished with our daily cheer of “Play Every Day!”

The end of camp celebration comes next week with a trip to Wrigley Field to see the Cubs play the San Francisco Giants. For some campers this will be their first ever professional baseball game, for others it will be their first ever trip to Wrigley Field. It will be the perfect way to end a great summer of camp and Chicago Cubs trolley fun!
