On Wednesday August 27th something magical happened. It was the first time that the whole Urban Initiatives staff had an event together! Otis Elementary played host to kick off the school year. A mixture of Office Staff, REC Coordinators, Recess Facilitators, Assistant Coaches, OSPDs and Board Members were able to get to know each other better, learn about each of the positions within the organization, and discuss the importance of each position to the overall success of Urban Initiatives.
Coach Blake said even though he has been part of the UI Team for multiple years, it was the first time he realized how big we had become. He was also able to share that his kids, whenever they see someone wearing UI gear, know that person is “cool!” Board Member Joni expressed that even though she’s new to the team, she can’t wait to help spread our mission.
No Urban Initiatives event is complete without games and, of course, a competition. Some teams did better than others in building balloon skyscrapers, but fun was had by all. Topping off the event with a happy hour allowed for even more team bonding. Thanks to everyone who could make it and we look forward to the next one!
