Spidermonkey Cycling Rides for UI

This weekend, in beautiful Fennville, Michigan, a group of dedicated cyclists from Spidermonkey Cycling Club gathered for a charity cycling event in support of Urban Initiatives. 30 Spidermonkey cyclists arrived at Virtue Cider in Fennville for a day of cycling, cider and fun. Over the course of the last few months these riders have fundraised over $13,000 for Urban Initiatives and culminated their fundraising efforts with a 50, 75, or 100 mile bike ride.

Virtue Cider hosted the event and served as a rest stop for the riders. Riders were able to stop, pick up snacks, and visit with Virtue Cider’s farm animals during their breaks. Additionally, Virtue Cider provided a delicious lunch and a free cider to every rider. The farm at Virtue Cider was a fantastic background for a gorgeous clear sky day and the jovial atmosphere. Riders spoke of the beautiful landscape throughout the day and raved about the routes set up by the Spidermonkey Cycling Club leadership.

The Spidermonkey cyclists were incredibly enthusiastic about the ride and about the partnership with Urban Initiatives, and throughout the day all the riders expressed interest in continuing the relationship between UI and Spidermonkey in the future and building this event into a lasting partnership. Urban Initiatives Executive Director, Jim Dower, said, “It was a great weekend and we are excited to grow the relationship.” He followed up and said that Spidermonkey leader Dean Okun said it best, “It’s wonderful to be a part of a group of ordinary cyclists doing extraordinary things.”

Urban Initiatives wants to extend our sincerest thank you to Spidermonkey and Virtue Cider. The Spidermonkeys dedication is made apparent by the $13,000 raised in their inaugural Charity Ride to support UI’s work. We are honored to partner with such an enthusiastic and motivated group of individuals. We can’t wait until next year!
